The Pros and Cons of Using a Double Oven Range

The many options available for outfitting your kitchen may not surprise you. Double ranges have a sterling reputation among appliance aficionados, but do they live up to the hype? Should your kitchen have a double oven range, or are you better off with another type? We’ll dive into the pros and cons of using a double oven range below.

Pro: You Can Multitask

Placing two different food items in the oven is essential if you’re looking to host many people or if you have a large family and want to get through your food prep and cook time quickly. Getting a commercial oven for your home could be the best option if you prefer to multitask in the kitchen.

Imagine a cooktop only having one burner. While these cooktops do exist, most prefer a four-burner to cook multiple things at once. The same thing applies to a double oven. You can set your food at two different temperatures and cook two different things that can come out simultaneously. It’s an excellent way to start plating sooner.

Con: It’ll Cost You

Cost isn’t something you can avoid, no matter your decision. However, double ovens cost more overall. That said, its versatility might be well worth the price. The idea is to pay more for what you feel you need, so you won’t lament over not having it because you wanted to save a few bucks. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention this while examining the pros and cons of using a double oven range.

Pro: Increased Oven Capacity

Sometimes, double oven ranges don’t come with the usual bottom storage drawer or food warmer. Instead, the oven has greater interior square footage. This feature doesn’t mean that you can no longer warm your food. Just turn off the oven and place your oven-safe plate on a rack, allowing your food to warm using the oven’s residual heat. You’ll have more storage space to put bigger dishes you couldn’t fit in a normal oven.

Con: Lower Oven Height

The double oven is typically lower to the ground. This placement could be a deal breaker for people with back issues. It could exacerbate their pain and make accessing the oven harder in the long run.
